About

Welcome to Lead from the Heart – My name is Angela McRae and welcome to my blog about Food, Travel and Lifestyle.

Why “Lead from the Heart”?

Well let me tell you why, there was an interview by Martin Bashir who interviewed Princess Diana back in 1995 for BBC “Panorama”. The people’s princess made a comment about her leadership style (which ruffled quite a few feathers may I add) that made such an impact that I held onto it throughout my life, marriage and career.

“Because I do things differently, because I don’t go by a rule book, because I lead from the heart, not the head, and albeit that’s got me into trouble in my work, I understand that. But someone’s got to go out there and love people and show it”

Princess Diana

I have been in the Food & Beverage industry for more than 20 years… some years were more eventful than others, some jobs were better than others – but I have worn every hat – I feel like I have done it all. I have been a hostess being screamed at because no reservation was made, I have washed dishes in the humid Canadian summers, I have served, tended bar and managed some amazing restaurants. I have worked hard – I have pushed boundaries – I have broken different molds – I have broken stereotypes to get to where I am today.

What do I do now?

I feel like the luckiest woman in the world. I am currently the Regional Vice President of Spectra Food Services & Hospitality overseeing our Canadian division. I have a roster of stadiums, arena’s, convention centers, botanical gardens.. and I can honestly tell you, that I love my job. In an industry dominated by males, I am part of an amazing company that values diversity and has provided me the opportunity to lead, and assist many events that I would pay big bucks to sit in the stands for!

Why the blog?

Not everyone has the ability to see, feel or taste the things I do. My job gives me the freedom to travel, taste delicious food, savor delicious cocktails, visit different cities – all while doing so with some style. Throughout my travels – I have learned to put my spin on local cuisines – not only is it hard eating take out but being gluten intolerant – doesn’t always afford me the luxury!

So please follow me for a behind the scenes look with “Lead from the Heart”…
